1095-A Form FAQs
The 1095-A is a tax form you receive if you purchased health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. It provides details about your coverage, premiums, and any advance premium tax credits you received.
You need this form to reconcile any advance premium tax credits on your federal income tax return or to claim a premium tax credit if you didn’t receive one during the year.
You should receive your 1095-A form by mid to late January following the end of the tax year. If you haven’t received it by February, check your online Marketplace account or contact the Marketplace directly.
Use the information on the 1095-A to fill out Form 8962 (Premium Tax Credit) when filing your federal tax return. This will determine if you received the correct amount of premium tax credits.
If you find incorrect information on your 1095-A form, contact the Marketplace immediately to request a corrected form.
If you didn’t purchase coverage through the Marketplace, you won’t receive a 1095-A form. Instead, you might get a 1095-B or 1095-C, depending on your coverage source.
No, you don’t need to send the form with your tax return. Keep it for your records, but the information must be used to complete your tax return.
Yes, you can usually download a copy from your Health Insurance Marketplace account.
If you lose your form, log into your Marketplace account to download another copy, or contact the Marketplace for assistance.
